چکیده

In this paper we use fixed point methods to model the behavior of a population of TCP flows traversing a network of routers implementing either Drop Tail or the RED queue management policies. We formulate a non-linear problem with the router average queue lengths as unknowns. Once the average queue lengths are obtained, other metrics such as router loss probability, TCP flow throughput, TCP flow endto-end loss rates, and average round trip time can be easily obtained. Comparison with simulation for a variety of scenarios shows that the model is quite accurate in its predictions.

TCP Network Calculus: The case of large delay-bandwidth product

We present in this paper an analytical model for the calculation of network load and drop probabilities in a TCP/IP network with general topology. First we formulate our model as a nonlinear complementarity problem. Then we transform the model into two equivalent formulations: fixed point formulation and nonlinear programming formulation. These equivalent formulations provide efficient computat...

Retrial Networks with Finite Buffers and Their Application to Internet Data Traffic

Data on the Internet is sent by packets that go through a network of routers. A router drops packets either when its buffer is full or when it uses the Active Queue Management. Up to the present, majority of the Internet routers use a simple DropTail strategy. The rate at which a user injects the data into the network is determined by Transmission Control Protocol (TCP). However, most connectio...

Design and Performance Evaluation of Distributed Active Queue Management Mechanism Cooperating among Multiple Routers

In recent years, AQM (Active Queue Management) mechanisms, which control the number of packets in the router’s buffer by discarding an arriving packet, have been actively studied. In past studies, most of AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of a single router; i.e., few AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of multiple routers in the network. In a general network w...

Designing AQM Mechanism for Improving Fairness among TCP Connections in Tandem Networks

In recent years, AQM (Active Queue Management) mechanisms, which control the number of packets in the router’s buffer by randomly discarding an arriving packet, have been actively studied. In past studies, most of AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of a single router; i.e., few AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of multiple routers in the network. A study of fairness among heterogeneous TCP variants over 10 Gbps high-speed optical networks

Several high-speed TCP variants are adopted by end users and therefore, heterogeneous congestion control has become the characteristic of newly emerging high-speed optical networks. In contrast to homogeneous TCP flows, fairness among heterogeneous TCP flows now depends on router parameters such as queue management scheme and buffer size. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study of...
